Sorting out my own motivation(s) likely entails pairing life events that bookended my 20s.

Seeing my 32-year-old boss shot dead on the job when I was 21, led me to quit. I was only 6 days in. I was broke. Yet, the following months led me through much reckoning. The more superficial led to creating a Bucket List, which included starting a business. I did that—and sold that in my late 20s. That allowed me to "retire" for the first time before 30 for >1 year. Having free time AND $ at same time was addicting. I’ve repeated it several time—even w/o the financial windfall.

Most recently pandemic closing my event-based business led me to take a “Seabattical”. That led to my Sail Lore: Deepen the sailor within & trying to telling others’ stories viaSecond Wind

‘RERO’ vs. FIRE

While FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) focuses on a single, permanent retirement through aggressive saving and investing, RERO (Retire Early & Often) takes a more flexible, cyclical approach to work and rest.

The RERO Philosophy

RERO acknowledges that life isn't linear. Instead of viewing retirement as a final destination, it treats it as periodic sabbaticals or mini-retirements throughout one's career.
