Hustle Muscle (Will Powers)

Intro:

The Hustler AKA “The Hustle Muscle” AKA “Will Powers” is often your last resort—and so, paradoxically, your first (explained below). He’s self-directed, he’ll give anything a try, and he's incredibly strong, but tires easily. Use him sparingly, only when your other Hands—or yourself--can't do the job. A Prima Donna, consider him an expensive hire, like a relief pitcher or Special Ops soldier. Keep him fresh. He's also tirING! He's good at getting you over the hump, but is disdainful of being overworked. He looks at you askance: "you couldn't do that by yourself?”, his half smirk seems to ask. You can avoid that disdain by having other Hands (e.g. Heuristician, Habitué) quickly take over, while he rests and recuperates.

Modus operandi: He spends the overwhelming majority of his time either training or in R&R (rest & recuperation).

Favorite—or "go-to" tools:

Let’s make a distinction between:  1. Working, i.e. using will power (i.e. responding) and 2. Working OUT, i.e. developing discipline, i.e. capacity to respond. He can help illustrate the difference and the paradox between responding and the ability to respond (see: https://farm.fyi/responsibility/)

Binders (commitment devices)

Blinders (help avoid temptations)

Minders—and there a few types: “Mind the Trap” [like those you’ve fallen into before, e.g. rabbit holes on the internet]; “Mind the Gap” [have enough gap to create a spark, but not so much you can’t make the leap],  “mind the crap” and most importantly, Mind your MIND (awareness, such as via meditation)

Strengths & Weaknesses (including a “kryptonite”):

He seems so effective that you’ll come over-depend on him. But he gets exhausted quicker than you expect and so will disappoint you. Plus, he requires a long recovery time. If you invest in him and develop him, you’ll get more out of him later, but not in the short run

Capability vs capacity issues? (TBD)

"Hand in Hand" w/: (works most / best with these other FARMhands)

+Habitué: helps get habits jump started: mini habits

+Hacker: always game to try something

+Heuristician: the decision maker’s (the decider’s) muscle?

+Historian: Learn when that extra effort is effective?

Back story: I envision a combo of special forces (perhaps a Navy Seal or other Navy special forces less than SEALs?) and minor/major-league baseball relief pitcher. Maybe he hails from the Caribbean or Central America (think Mariano Rivera) so both opener (of hostilities) and closer.

Maybe a composite of various folks (fictional & real). I noticed I found this former SEAL (https://twitter.com/jockowillink) irritating. Given what you resist most changes you the most, maybe there’s something there I should investigate more. When I lived in India, I became friends with a Jamaican cricketer Chris Gayle, so he could be a model as well.
